Anchor spa (disguised black owned gem)

I went to a show at the Shubert Theater in New Haven, CT yesterday. The Shubert Theater has a list of restaurants where you get a discount if you show your ticket. We looked through the list and then we were going to go to one of them. Then I was like let me open up the EatOkra app and see what's going on in New Haven. The Anchor Spa shows up in the app and the Anchor Spa is literally across the Street from the Shubert Theater. I then look over the Shubert list of partner restaurants again and the Anchor Spa is on the list of Shupert restaurant discount partners. Okay, this is a no-brainer we are going to the Anchor Spa. Now mind you every time, I go to New Haven I see the Anchor Spa and never thought to go in there. It looks more like a bar. I’ve since read the history and it was purchased years ago by a Black Yale graduate who kept the spirit and name of the original Anchor Spa. So we go to the Anchor Spa, the place does look like a traditional Yale pub. It looks like a traditional Yale pub until you open the menu wow fried chicken, rasta pasta, jerk vegetables, plantain chips, etc. I then tell the waitress about the Shubert Theater ticket discount, she then mentioned she hadn't heard of the Shubert Theater ticket discount but she’ll give me the discount. The discount is like 10%. Let me back up for a second. The show that we went to see at the Shubert Theater was an amazing show by the “National Dance Theater Company of Jamaica”. The theater was full of beautiful black people. The Shubert Theater doesn't serve food. The people in the theater just like myself had no clue there was a black-owned restaurant across the street from the theater with this type of menu and a 10% discount to theater Patrons. Had they known the Anchor Spa would've been packed with patrons from the show afterward and the waitress would've known about the discount. Anyway, the food order came it was pretty good. Here’s what we got: Plantain Chips - Plaintain chips were too salty but the chips themselves were really good. The dip it came with was good with a nice spice to them Bag of Fried Chicken - The chicken was piping hot and crispy and the chicken held its heat. The chicken batter lacked salt. However, the hot sauce that it came with made up for the chicken lacking salt. Rasta Pasta - very good, again a little too salty with a nice spicy flavor Jerk Vegetables - very good Overall, very good place. I took a star off for the disproportions of salt control across dishes. The beautiful thing is at the end we get the bill and on the front of the bill jacket. It says “Proud Black Owned Restaurant” or something to that effect. Wow, now we know. I’ll be back whenever I'm in New Haven.
